Bridal Floral Arrangements: White and Yellow Wedding Flower Arrangements

She didn't exactly put a gun to my head. It wasn't a matter of do or die. Nor did she intimidate me to the task at hand. But she did waylay me and handed me a proposition I couldn't resist: "Want to do my daughter's wedding flowers?" Now, anyone who knows me know I'm flower-crazy. I'm the emblem of flower power and I'm known around the neighborhood as the scavenger of anything floral. While others give out homebaked cookies during Christmas, I give out fresh centerpieces and I'm not even a florist. I enjoy putting flowers together and Marty (I think it's safe to reveal her name now) knew she was taking a gamble when she threw out that proposition.

OK, I've done small scale arrangments for Bar Mitvahs and one of them happen to be my own son's(does he even have a choice?), so there's really no track record to fall back on. This is someone's wedding and messing it up would be unforgiveable. Plus I may lose Marty, my Bible teacher's friendship. The stake is high---should I or shouldn't I?

Like a fly drawn to light, I squished every fear and reservation and said YES. I would later question my own sanity when the task seemed monumental but for the time being, I'm dreaming flowers and possibilities. Lots of flowers to play--what could be more fun?

The task would be easier if I'm just allow free reign to come out with whatever I think it's beautiful but of course, the wedding girl has themes and colors and flowers have to be part of the scheme of things, not just random pretty things.

She has a few requests:

Color theme: white and yellow

Arrangements must include a hurricane with pillar candles

Flowers: Hydrangea, plumerias, roses, calla lilies, stephanotis, cutesy tweedia,

Alright, I think I can deal with that. They seemed manageable requests and don't forget, I'm quite delusional at this point. Running high on flower power.

First order of things, I brought Marty and Christiana (think it's safe too to mention her name too) to the flower market --the florist's playground, where flowers peer from every corner and lined every space to bedazzle you. Riots of colors, shapes and symmetry--some shy while others flaunt with wide-eyed faces, brazen and bold--a jungle of petals and sepals. I'm in flowers' paradise!

Lots of looking and lots of discussion ensued.

We went away with some questions answered and some homework to do. I googled lots of wedding bouquets and learn a trick or two from youtube. Still, I've a little nagging fear--what if the arrangements fall short of the bride's ideas of a perfect day? I know for a fact, that she's a perfectionist and I'm by nature, the opposite of it. I'm random, spontaneous and make flowers arrangements by intuition, so to speak. I allow the flowers to talk to me....and really, I'm quite sane.

So, how did the flowers turn out? Let's find out.

P.S. I must say that Christiana and Marty were very forgiving and pleasant to work with. They made my short stint as a "wedding florist" very enjoyable.
