Love your skinny jeans but can’t stand how they can be stiff and can squeeze your belly out? Tight form-fitting jeans may give you shape but you may be breathing through your mouth with the ever annoying button imprint. Now, fashion gurus have come out with a smart solution—marry the stylish, ever versatile edge of denim jeans with the comfortable stretchability of leggings. Fashion journalists, ever so good at hybrid words have a word for leggings that look like jeans (jeans + leggings): Jeggings. The Brits called them Treggings.
According to business reporting, jeggings are among the most popular clothing items of 2010. And it continues to dominate the fashion world in 2011. In fact, the new fall collection for 2011 is hotter than ever. For those of you who can’t wait for leggings to fade away into oblivion, this may not be very good news. But if you already love your skinny jeans, jeggings are truly a wonder invention. Maybe not quite wonder bra but definitely more comfortable and totally fashionable.
Jeggings were first worn for jogging in the early 2009. Celebrities like Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton were caught jogging in these and such high profile spotting generated a lot of interest in jeggings. They eventually seeped into the fashion world and more celebrities were caught wearing them to social functions.

2011 Fashion Facts About Jeggings
Leggings have been around since the beginning of time. Well, that might be a slight exaggeration, but leggings do have a long past. Regardless, leggings, and their cousin, jeggings, are topping the trends for 2011.
A typical pair of jeggings is made of denim/spandex blend. Other popular materials used include cotton, polyester and a new type of nylon named nylon PV1. These materials help to give softness, yet structure and form. Unlike leggings that are usually worn under a long top, skirt or tunic dresses, they can be worn on their own. Especially if you have a well-toned bottom and can afford the luxury of showing it off. You can find those with just an elastic waistband that lean more towards leggings or you can opt for those with faux zip-flies and pockets that look more than jeans.
If you shudder at the thought of shimmying into one of these jeggings, I say give it a try. You may be surprised to at how comfortable they are. Another plus-- you can also hide lots of defects when you team it with a long blouse or sweater dresses. If you’re looking for a pair, you have plenty of choices: light wash/dark wash, acid wash/stone wash, shorter/longer, high waist or even ones that like cargo pants.
Choose a pair that plays to your fashion sense and your personal preference. Whether you prefer the classical look, the ‘80s look that is so fashionable now, the hipster or the edgy look, there is a pair out there. Team them with flowy top, vest, shirt, sweater tops or short dresses and create the look you want. And don’t forget accessories and shoes. Gladiator shoes are popular choices to show off jeggings. So are ballet flats, oxfords, even mile-long heels. And let’s not forget boots—leg-hugging jeggings fit nicely and you have to fight with spill-offs of baggier pants.

I have a pair of jeggings! More comfortable to wear than normal skinny jeans, but they still make me feel a little bit "squeezed." So jeggings are pretty cool, but I prefer shorts lol :)

These are all cute and look very good on the people that you have shown. However, this type of jean should NOT been worn by some of the people attempting to squeeze into them. LOL! Thumbs up! :)

Jill, good to see u gain. I know, the jelly belly that we all(ok, not all) have to tame. I do own a pair and hope to own more than one pair. It's like second skin, very sketchy and fits snuggly. If you don't like it too close to your skin, you may not like it but it fits beautifully. Sometimes, it is known as legging jeans, so good luck when you look for one. Have a good day.

Fabulous description! I agree, jeggings are very comfy. I will not wear them with short jackets, but with cardigans or long sweaters jeggings would go on most of women. I bought a pair this winter just to wear them with my new long boots.

I bought a pair finally in my size so I wouldn't be squished in pants anymore and my normal size is a 1, I bought size 0-2 leggings and they didn't fit I was wayyyy to big for them...they seemed less stretchy...
Thunder, sometimes, it takes a while to find a pair that fits nicely. I'm usually a size 00 to 1, depending on the brand. Recently, i found a Gap pair. The 00 fits me but too snuggly for my liking. I settled for a 0--a tad too big on the waist but that makes me feel comfortable,even after a meal (i love to eat). Thanks for dropping by.
I have given up on buying jeans despite having slim legs i don't like my mid riff and find most jeans to low cut to be flattering. I'm a jeggings convert worn with tunic tops.

I think they are great but I feel too old to wear them. I think I would have to wear them in my house only or my daughter would be too embarrassed.

Would shorts look good over jeggings?
Thanks, Sarah, for dropping by. This is what I'm thinking--since jeggings tend to be thicker than leggings, pairing it with shorts may make your middle look bigger. It may also be uncomfortable but you never know, try it and if it looks good, go out and turn some heads.
I just had to come back and share a story. While shopping with some young people, I called jeggings by this name, i.e. "jeggings". It surely impressed young people. They were surprised that know what "jeggings" mean, because, as they say, most of people of my "relict" age (Oh. MY. God!) do not know what "jeggings" mean. So, thank you for educating us!
